4. In the cloud, algorithms develop your usage time and other sleep parameters.

During an Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) event, soft tissue in the back of your throat and your tongue compress the airway that delivers air from your nose and mouth to your lungs. This makes it harder for you to breathe, and in some cases, stops your breathing altogether. You may have many OSA events per night and sleeping on your back can increase the number of apnea events that you have.
An oral appliance like Rest Assure moves your jaw forward, bringing the soft tissue and tongue forward to prevent the airway from compressing. This allows you to breathe easier and can reduce the number of apnea events you have each night, especially if you sleep on your back. Rest Assure monitors how often you use your device and how much time you sleep on your back.
Oral appliances such as Rest Assure are custom-made to fit your mouth and are worn only while you sleep. They may be suitable if you have been diagnosed with mild to moderate cases of sleep apnea. Many patients find oral appliances more comfortable than CPAP because a mask is not required, and you are not connected to a machine at the side of your bed.
After you have worn your Rest Assure device for a night, information about your sleep will be displayed in the Rest Assure App:
Usage time: your usage time is the time the device was in your mouth during the night.
Breathing events: “Breathing events per hour” means the number of breathing events – interruptions in your breathing due to OSA – that you experience during each hour of your sleep.
Sleep Position: Rest Assure monitors your sleep position during the night. It records the time you spend sleeping on your back, on your side and on your front.
Sleep Interruptions: Rest Assure monitors any sleep interruptions during the night, such as when you sit up in bed and if you take the Rest Assure out of your mouth during the night.
Your Rest Assure score: Your Rest Assure score measures the quality of your sleep using:
Use the Rest Assure score to track your therapy in action and see if you can improve your sleep from night to night.
SomnoMed has been proudly designing high quality oral appliances for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea since 2004. Our appliances are known for their comfort and durability, so we are the market leader in the oral appliances market in each of the 28 countries where we operate. Over the last 20 years more than 860,000 patients have been treated with one of our oral appliances.
In 2020, we started a project to add sensors to our oral appliances to measure usage and other sleep parameters and provide this information to the patients who use our appliances and the medical professionals that treat their OSA. From this project, Rest Assure, the first smart oral appliance, was born.
At SomnoMed we are “Treatment focused and technology driven”. We’re continually developing new technology for the treatment of sleep apnea, and we partner with dentists and sleep physicians around the world to help them treat your OSA and provide you with a better night’s sleep.
SomnoMed has designed Rest Assure to be strong and safe. To protect the battery and sensors, they are enclosed inside the dental acrylic used to make your Rest Assure during the manufacture of the device. This prevents the sensors from being damaged or dislodged during normal use. If your device is damaged, say if you drop it, return it to your dentist for examination before you use it.
